Duncan Barbour, grandson of founder John Barbour, had a big interest in motorcycles. He introduced Barbour's first collection of motorcycle wear already in 1934. A collection that quickly became a favorite of enthusiastic motorcyclists. In 1957, 97% of the participants, active in the "Scottish 6 Day Event", had a set of Barbours waxed cotton overalls. The iconic actor Steve McQueen was a faithful customer and user of Barbour International, something that led to a series of items being made in his honor later on.
