In 1958, Lowell North opened its first store at B Street Pier in San Diego. On the outside of the ceiling he had put the blue-white logo, today its known throughout the world. With Lowell's success in sailing, the myth of North Sails began to grow, and he began to share his success and skills to various people. Only the best sailors were allowed to use the Lowell North sails and designs. The clothing collection started with Lowell taking spare material from the sailcloths and sewed it into clothing. The significant North Sail logo was also used on the garment. In order to further develop, design and production moved to Italy in the late 80's, and from there North Sails Sportswear has evolved into one of the world's largest lifestyle brands.
